Job Overview
We are seeking an Adult Handbell Director to lead the two adult handbell choirs of the Doylestown United Methodist Church. A stipend of $65.00 for each practice and performance includes 32 practices on Monday nights from 6:30 to 9:00 pm and 8 performances on the second Sunday of each month at the contemporary and traditional worsip services from September through May. In addition, there are 3 special events; each will receive the $65.00 stipend.
In this role, you will inspire and guide adult musicians of varying skill levels to develop their musical talents, coordinate engaging rehearsals and performances, and promote the joy of handbell artistry with our church. Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct regular rehearsals that focus on technique, musicality and ensemble cohesion, ensuring all members are engaged and progressing
- Lead the preparation and execution of performances
- Select appropriate music that challenges performers while maintaining accessibility for all skill levels
- Provide instruction on handbell techniques, music reading, and performance skills tailored to adult learners
- Foster effective communication with choir members through clear instructions, constructive feedback and encouragement to build confidence
- Coordinate with the Music Director and Church Schedule
- Train new ringers
Requirements
- Demonstrate experience in conducting or directing adult handbell choirs
- Strong knowledge of handbell techniques and musical repertoire suitable for adult performers
- Music Degree Required
