What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Social Work Intern position at Dove Counseling Services, LLC?
Dove Counseling Services is a growing private practice in Eatontown, NJ focused on providing thoughtful, compassionate psychotherapy to individuals, children, teens, couples, and families. We’re especially passionate about supporting younger populations and creating a space where both clients and clinicians feel supported, valued, and able to grow.
As our practice continues to expand, we’re intentionally building a strong, collaborative team environment ~ not just a place to intern, but a place to truly develop as a clinician.
The Role- We’re looking for super cool MSW interns in New Jersey (clinical track preferred) who are excited to grow into confident, skilled psychotherapists within a private practice setting.
- This is a hybrid internship (in-person virtual exposure), designed to give you real clinical experience ~ not just observation.
- You’ll be gradually supported in working with a range of clients (children, teens, adults, couples, families), developing your clinical voice, and gaining hands-on experience in how therapy actually works in a real-world setting.
- We’re not just offering an internship ~ we’re building a development track:
- MSW Intern → LSW → Full-Time Therapist
- This internship is designed to set you up for your career, not just check a requirement.
You’ll receive:
- Hands-on guidance in how to run therapy sessions (not just sit in and observe)
- Support with documentation, treatment planning, and clinical thinking
- Training on private practice systems (insurance, scheduling, workflow)
- Ongoing mentorship as you build confidence in your clinical skills
- A collaborative team where you can ask questions and actually learn
This is especially ideal if you’re someone who wants to feel prepared going into your first therapist role ~ not overwhelmed.
You’ll also be supported by a highly experienced and genuinely kind clinical supervisor who is invested in your growth.
Creative & Experiential Opportunities- We also value creativity and flexibility in how therapy looks.
- Interns have the opportunity to be involved in group work, programming, and more experiential/community-based therapy. For example, we’re currently partnering with a local paddleboarding company for wellness-based experiences, and have facilitated group outings into the community (like trips to local spots such as the Asbury Park cat café) — all integrated into clinical work.
If you’re someone who likes thinking outside the box, there’s a lot of room to explore that here.
What You’ll Gain Experience In- Observing and eventually participating in individual, family, and/or couples sessions
- Conducting assessments and contributing to treatment planning
- Learning documentation and clinical note writing
- Understanding how to manage a caseload and schedule
- Participating in supervision and case discussions
- Exposure to collaboration with families, schools, and other providers
- Currently enrolled in an MSW program (clinical track preferred)
- Strong interest in becoming a psychotherapist
- Open to feedback, learning, and clinical growth
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Bonus (not required):
- Interest in working with children, teens, or families
- Interest in group therapy
- Ability to be in-person in Eatontown at least 1 to 2 days per week
- Some evening/weekend availability preferred
This internship is part of a larger pipeline. High-performing interns will have the opportunity to transition into a paid LSW role within the practice after graduation.
Post-graduation compensation starts at $50 per session (53 minutes) with continued support toward full-time clinician development.
Why Join UsThis is a great fit for someone who wants:
- Real clinical experience (not just shadowing)
- Strong support early in their career
- A clear path into a therapist role after graduation
- A team that actually collaborates and cares
- The ability to be creative and build meaningful experiences for clients
If you’re looking for an internship that actually prepares you to be a therapist ~ and gives you a path forward ~ we’d love to connect.
