What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bakery Production & Packaging Associate – Mon–Thu, No Weekends position at Douglas Sweets?
Baker / Packager
Douglas Sweets | Shelburne, VT
Douglas Sweets is a small specialty bakery in Shelburne, Vermont, and we’re looking for a dependable Baker / Packager to join our production team.
This is a hands-on, behind-the-scenes production position combining baking, packaging, and general bakery work. There is no customer-facing work. The work is physical and repetitive, but our environment is generally low-stress, organized, and predictable.
One of the biggest advantages of this position is the schedule: we work Monday through Thursday only. There are no weekend shifts, so every weekend is a three-day weekend.
No professional baking experience is required — we will train the right person.
Schedule
- Monday–Thursday only
- 7:00 AM–2:30 PM
- Approximately 28–30 hours per week
- Never weekends
- Three-day weekend every week
- Consistent daytime hours and predictable schedule
What You’ll Do
- Operate commercial bakery and production equipment
- Weigh, package, seal, label, and case finished products
- Check products and packaging for quality and accuracy
- Clean and sanitize equipment and production areas
- Follow food safety, allergen, and sanitation procedures
- Move and organize ingredients, packaging materials, and finished products
- Help with other day-to-day bakery and production tasks as needed
What We’re Looking For
More than previous bakery experience, we’re looking for someone who is reliable, consistent, and comfortable with repetitive work.
You should be:
- Dependable and punctual
- Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods
- Able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable performing repetitive tasks throughout the workday
- Able to follow instructions accurately
- Detail-oriented and committed to doing things consistently
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
- Able to maintain a clean and organized workspace
Previous bakery, food production, manufacturing, or packaging experience is helpful, but not required.
What the Job Is Like
This is not a restaurant, retail bakery, or customer-service position. There are no customers to serve, orders to take, or weekend shifts to cover. Our team focuses on making and packaging our products.
Production is planned and routine, and most days follow an established process. The work is repetitive and physical: you’ll spend much of the day standing, using your hands, moving products and ingredients, and repeating production or packaging tasks.
For someone who enjoys straightforward, hands-on work, a predictable routine, and leaving work at work, this can be a very good fit.
Pay & Benefits
- $20–$22/hour, depending on experience
- 40 hours of Combined Time Off (CTO) per year
- 4 paid holidays when they fall on a regularly scheduled workday: Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day
- Weekly free Douglas Sweets product
- Employee discount
- Monday–Thursday schedule
- Three-day weekend every week
- No weekend work
- No customer-facing work
- Predictable and consistent hours
- Low-stress, professional work environment
