Our Middle School Principal will be retiring on March 2, 2026, as a result of this the Douglas Public Schools are looking for an interim principal for the remainder of the school year. We will start a search for a July 1, 2026 start date later this winter.

Position Overview
The Principal plays a critical leadership role in shaping the educational experience, climate, and operational effectiveness of the school. This individual will design and implement programs that meet the unique needs of the school community while fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous environment for all students. The Principal is responsible for guiding curriculum development, supporting professional growth among staff, and ensuring strong communication and collaboration with families, district leadership, and the broader community.
In this role, the Principal leads the development, revision, and evaluation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum. They oversee class scheduling within established guidelines to ensure student needs are met and supervise the preparation of reports, records, and documents necessary for effective school administration. The Principal works closely with central office administrators on district-wide matters—including transportation, special services, and operational planning—to support smooth and consistent school functioning.
Building strong relationships is a key component of this position. The Principal maintains active, positive engagement with students, families, and community partners, while establishing a nurturing and effective learning climate within the school. They are committed to their own professional growth through participation in professional organizations, continued education, and attendance at regional, state, and national conferences.
The Principal oversees the creation of the master schedule and collaborates with department heads, faculty, and the School Council to develop annual budget requests while monitoring the school budget throughout the year. They also ensure that Student Activity Funds and related transactions comply with all applicable laws, School Committee guidelines, and town procedures.
As a community leader, the Principal works with parent, student, and faculty groups to advance educational goals and school initiatives. They collaborate with the High School Principal to ensure students are informed about high school opportunities and experience a smooth transition. Additionally, the Principal partners with the Facilities Manager to maintain a clean, safe, and well-functioning school building.
