Description

The City of Springfield's Environmental Services Department is seeking individuals that are interested in making a difference in our community by joining the team as an Environmental Manager.

In this leadership role, you will oversee environmental compliance for the City’s Integrated Solid Waste Management System, outdoor air quality program, and hazardous waste operations while ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations. From managing landfill gas systems and directing field investigations to guiding environmental projects and collaborating with engineers, scientists, and regulatory partners, this role offers variety, challenge, and the chance to make a visible impact every day. This position combines fieldwork, project management, and team leadership to support safe, sustainable solid waste operations and protect public health and the environment. Qualifications And Requirements

Experience, Education, and Training

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related scientific field;

AND

  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in environmental compliance, permitting, or project management;
  • At least two years of increasingly responsible supervisory and/or experience leading and directing the work of others;
  • Experience in a closely related discipline may be substituted in lieu of specified experience based on length and relevancy of experience;

PREFERRED

  • Experience in supervision of environmental compliance and project management in a solid waste setting/facility;
  • Master’s degree.

Licensing/Certification

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain certification as MDNR Solid Waste Technician, 40 Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations HAZWOPER, and SWANA (Solid Waste Assoc. of North America) Landfill Gas Systems Operation & Maintenance within the probationary period.
