These positions are technical work responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and construction of County parks, parks facilities, trails and open space within the Parks, Trails & Building Grounds. This position is part of the career path in the Park Maintenance field. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive.)

  • Inspects park grounds, trails, open space, and facilities to determine need or extent of repairs.  Prepares and maintains records of completed work.
  • May direct the activities of Seasonal Parks Technicians, community service workers, and volunteers performing maintenance and repair work including mowing grass, landscaping grounds, correcting drainage problems, removing trash, and maintaining park roads and parking lots.
  • Operates equipment including pickups, single axle and tandem axle trucks, all types of tractor-trailers, rollers, mowers, sweepers, loaders, backhoes, snowplows, sanders, trenchers, chippers, and concrete cutters.
  • Performs park irrigation preventive maintenance, repairs, and controller programming during the irrigation season.
  • May direct the activities of Seasonal Parks Technicians performing construction work of park facilities including concrete, structures, buildings, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and sprinkler systems. 
  • Performs maintenance, repairs, and construction of parks, parks facilities, and trails including; replacing plant material and playground equipment, resurfacing trails, trimming trees and shrubs, and erecting and repairing fences.
  • Performs snow removal and application of anti-icing and de-icing products for County buildings, parks, and trails.
  • Checks equipment and tools to assure safe and proper usage.   
  • Repair, maintenance and construction in parks, trails and building grounds including, turf maintenance, fence construction and maintenance, chemical application and noxious weed control, grading parking lots and trails surfaces, removal of trash, restroom cleaning and facility maintenance, over seeding, top dressing, landscaping, erosion control, maintenance of infrastructure, and playground inspections and repairs.   • General maintenance of vehicles and equipment including pre-trip inspections, checking fluid levels and filter, tire pressure, mower blade maintenance, dressing equipment and cleaning equipment. (Tech II)
  • Instruction of new employees and seasonal staff on standard of work and safety procedures. (Tech II) 
  • Responds to inquiries of park users and the public.  
  • Process relevant paperwork daily. (Tech II)
  • May direct tasks of lower-level technicians. (Tech II)
  • On call duty for special events and snow removal. (Tech II)
  • Attend and contribute to various meetings. (Tech II)
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Park Maintenance Tech I:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Six months of related experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Park Maintenance Tech II:

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered. 

CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.

Park Maintenance Tech II:

  • Ability to obtain a State of Colorado Class (A) Commercial Driver License and complying insurance within one year of hire. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
  • Upon possession of a Class A License, incumbents in this position must meet the Department of Transportation physical exam and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
