Parks Maintenance-Seasonal

General Summary:

Under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible to perform proficiently in multiple types of skilled outdoor landscape maintenance as well as some facilities maintenance duties: This may include Mowing, string trimming, pulling weeds, planting, trash, simple facility repairs and other miscellaneous landscaping such as aeration, drainage repair and even some arborist work. This position performs in all aspects of general maintenance duties; maintains all District facilities and grounds and works on capital improvement projects and other construction projects, as assigned.        

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Perform unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance and/or operational activities in building streets, parks, or in assigned area of responsibility
2. Maintaining grounds and facilities
3. Performing routine custodial maintenance
4. Operation and minor repair of equipment infrastructure, tools, and/or related items
5. Operating motorized vehicles and equipment
6. Entering data; preparing logs and records
7. Learns from and assists skilled workers in performing required activities
8. Assists work crews in the installation, repair, and maintenance of parks, irrigation lines, parks facilities, and other District facilities and structures
9. Clears limbs and branches
10. Loads and unloads tools
11. Maintains turf
12. Plants flowers, trees, and shrubs
13. Apply Mulch to shrub beds
14. Apply top dressing to turf
15. Fertilizes and aerates turf
16. Operates, maintains, and performs preventative maintenance repairs on hand and power tools, vehicles, and equipment used for this function
17. Assists with snow removal activities
18. Perform additional duties as assigned

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Assists other staff member in completion of assigned tasks and projects throughout the District.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

1. Knowledge of basic tools and equipment used in regular maintenance work.
2. Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds and landscape work.
3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
4. Ability to operate light and heavy motorized equipment.
5. Ability to follow oral and written direction.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

1. Must have the ability to perform heavy manual labor: shoveling, digging, lifting, pushing, pulling and dragging.
2. Work is performed under conditions that provide exposure to some or all, but not limited to the following: dirt, fumes, cold/hot weather, noise, vibration, oil, pesticides, and water.
3. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds to remove debris, load pumps, and remove sod and other duties as assigned.
4. Stoop, bend, and crouch for extended periods of time; and work in confined spaces.

Education/Experience/License:

1. High School diploma or GED required.  
2. Valid unrestricted Colorado Driver License required with a safe driving record.
