SALARY: $18,077.90 ($17.38/hourly)


SUMMARY : This is routine work responsible for monitoring the entrance to the county landfill and it’s convenience centers. Work involves weighing and measuring and/or estimating weights and measures of waste material in vehicles as they enter the landfill and convenience centers, determining proper fees, collecting fees, issuing receipts, completing daily close-out documents, and responding to customer inquiries and complaints. This position is a part-time only position that works every other week Monday through Saturday. The operating hours are Monday-Friday from 12:00 noon – 6:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. This position may be assigned to various locations within Douglas County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • · Weighing the inert waste dumped at the landfill and/or convenience center; measuring vehicles bringing waste to the landfill and/or convenience center to determine correct fees; recording weights and measurements; calculating correct fees for loads; collecting fees; issuing receipts; signing and dating receipt books; taking receipt book and money to the closest County Fire Department, Finance Department, or elsewhere as directed
  • · Instructing public in the proper use of landfill and/or convenience center facilities including the recycling center
  • · Receiving and responding to citizen complaints
  • · Picking up and disposing of trash at entrance and work area
  • · May operate county vehicles in the performance of duties
  • · Performing other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • · High school diploma or General Educational Development Certificate (GED)
  • · Two years professional related work experience
  • Preferred – cash control and/or record keeping
  • · An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

· Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR)

· Materials Identification Training within six months of hire

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn county and department operations, ordinances, policies, procedures, terminology, and materials as they relate to assignment
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn applicable state, federal, state, and local codes and ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations as they relate to assignment
  • Knowledge of principles, techniques, guidelines, practices, and equipment as related to assignment; solid waste and recycling, hazardous waste screening
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the safe operation of equipment, tools, machinery, and vehicles as required by assignment
  • Knowledge of the operation of all department equipment, tools, machinery, and vehicles as required by assignment
  • Knowledge of specialized software, machinery, materials, terminology, and/or forms essential to the assignment
  • Skill in creating, maintaining, and organizing accurate, detailed, and complete records of daily transactions, et cetera
  • Skill in effective customer service; excellent oral and written communication skills to satisfactorily resolve conflicts and issues, and to explain established policies and procedures to employees and the general public
  • Skill in handling and operating all assigned equipment, tools, and/or vehicles in a safe and proficient manner
  • Skill in performing tasks which require attention to detail, and completing assigned jobs efficiently and correctly
  • Skill in typing and entering data into a computer system accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to apply common sense to understand, follow, and complete verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate and interact clearly and effectively with all those contacted in the course of work in a professional and courteous manner, both orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective, professional, and cordial working relationships
  • Ability to count and balance monies collected
  • Ability to make sound, independent decisions within policy guidelines by exercising good judgment and intelligent situation-assessment
  • Ability to perform and comprehend mathematic computations accurately and quickly
  • Ability to read and comprehend routine instructions, short correspondence and memos

  • Ability and willingness to meet physical requirements and perform manual labor (including lifting and carrying heavy objects) indoors or outdoors for extended periods of time
