About this Job
The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is located in District 04/Unit 560 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Highway Foreman. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Operate heavy equipment, as needed. (Equipment usage is determined both by seasonal conditions and by the nature of the project.)
- Must be capable of interpreting data contained in various operator's manuals to ensure the limits and capabilities of the equipment operated are not exceeded. Perform minor repairs, services, and cleans equipment in accordance with the operator manual and manufacturer's recommendations to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
- Prior to equipment operation, conduct routine visual/physical safety inspection of equipment, report problems to supervisor/appropriate personnel and/or take necessary corrective action whenever possible.

Compensation:
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1:
Class D, Chauffer’s License will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for every hour worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2:
Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for every hour worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY:
Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY will be $21.05/hourly.
