The overall function of this position is to assist Professional Engineers and/or higher level Engineering Technicians in the performance of construction inspection work and general contract administration duties required of a District Project Engineer’s Construction Office. Specialized areas of responsibility include Portland Cement Concrete Inspection, Superpave Asphaltic Concrete Pavement Inspection, Embankment and Base Course Inspection, Structural Concrete Inspection and Subsurface Drainage Installation Inspection. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform all construction contract administration and related duties with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Eighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Utilizes a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department procedures, policies, standards, and specifications in the inspection of construction work and/or in the completion and/or processing of construction-related documents such as field diaries, partial estimates and final estimates. Enters construction project data into the appropriate computer database or application (MATT, Site Manager, Content Manager etc.). Applies DOTD engineering policies and procedures to normal work situations in the Project Engineer's Office and/or at construction sites. Serves as primary construction inspector in area(s) of specialization or certification.
- Determines material sampling requirements for area(s) of expertise. Verifies elevations/alignments for surveys. Reviews haul tickets to determine if loads comply with authorized/approved load quantities/volumes. Prepares work reports, monthly estimate quantities, and mathematical calculations necessary to complete paperwork. May serve as the primary asphalt plant technician.
- Completes required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing construction inspection and completing necessary documentation and/or paperwork. May also provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower level technicians and/or consultant personnel.
- May perform additional duties as necessary to ensure the efficient operations of the Project Engineer's office.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary including but not limited to Emergency/Disaster support activities.
