This position, located in the Construction Section of the Department of Transportation and Development, serves as the assistant to the Lead Construction Inspector and reports directly to the Construction Inspector Supervisor. The role involves inspecting and verifying construction work, performing field tests, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with project specifications. The incumbent must hold required certifications, operate specialized testing equipment, and effectively represent the Department while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and public trust.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Inspect construction projects to ensure compliance with departmental standards, project specifications, and quality requirements.
- Serve as lead inspector in the absence of the Construction Inspector 5 and assist with project coordination.
- Monitor contractor procedures, signage, and Equal Employment Opportunity compliance.
- Perform field testing (e.g., soil densification using nuclear density machine, pavement profile evaluations).
- Take and verify project measurements; calculate and record quantities for project documentation.
- Compile contractor payment summaries and prepare/review project diaries and records.
- Gather field information for project changes and maintain positive public relations.
- Provide on-the-job training in areas of certification.
- Write haul tickets and manage other required project paperwork.
- Perform office duties such as indexing, labeling, validating quantities, and preparing documentation for audit.
- Use departmental computer systems and engineering applications as needed.
- Support project design by collecting field data, preparing sketches, and calculating quantities.
- Contribute to overall Construction Office operations and assist with emergency/disaster response activities when required.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Construction Inspector 1, 2, 3, or 4.
Compensation: Below is the starting hourly rate for each level.
- Construction Inspector 1 - $14.98/hourly
- Construction Inspector 2 - $17.15/hourly
- Construction Inspector 3 - $19.63/hourly
- Construction Inspector 4 - $22.47/hourly
Additional $2.00/Hourly Premium Pay for Every Hour Worked
