GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Maintenance and Operations, performs a variety of semi skilled construction and routine, emergency, and deferred maintenance of district facilities in support of organization mission. Assists with planning and coordinating of projects and programs, and assists in the support of district and school site activities and programs. Performs duties in a safe manner, functions as a team member, works close with Maintenance and Operations and district staff, and performs other duties related to this job description.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans for required materials and execution of work orders of maintenance projects involving facilities.
Maintains good rapport with maintenance and operations/transportation staff and coordinates efforts with other maintenance team members.
Identifies material needs, orders materials as requested, provides estimate of materials, determines man-hours for projects and monitors material usage.
Performs purchasing and inventory/warehouse duties, including delivery of supplies and equipment to sites.
Functions as a maintenance team member, confers with the Maintenance and Operations and/or department lead on establishing priorities, helps determines preventative maintenance needs and reviews completed projects upon request.
Assists in performing skilled labor in such areas as carpeting, plumbing, painting and locksmithing, minor electrical, repair/replace gutter systems, minor roof repair, as appropriate to experience, ensures timely completion of tasks.
May mix and pour concrete, replace broken windows, perform necessary electrical work, carpentry, and other duties as required.
Uses tools associated with facility maintenance to include, but not limited to; power saws, sand blasters, mixers, drills and drill press, plasma cutters, table saws, band saws, some fabrication.
Interprets blueprints and site plans to locate required electrical/communication runs, sewer, and water lines. Understands building concepts associated with plans.
Understands general function of HVAC systems such as: replacing filters, setting and control systems. Assists in the installation of HVAC systems, and trouble shooting methods.
Performs semi skilled tasks such as: repair and replace lighting systems, operate/repair/replace electrical and mechanical systems such as intercoms, bells, PA systems, score keeping systems, clocks, coax cable and other communications/electrical wiring/cable, and audio visual systems, pumping systems, and machine systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids; ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels; ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.
Ability to work in a large plant environment following safe work practice procedures requested and required and function as a team member.
Knowledge of the general principles, methods, materials, and equipment used in most or all of the plumbing, heating, electrical, carpentry, concrete, painting, and allied trades.
Knowledge of function and repair characteristics of buildings and equipment maintained.
Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of materials, tools, and methods used in the inspection, repair, replacement and installation of a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, and gas-fired equipment.
Skill in reading/interpreting blueprints, plans, diagrams, schematics, mechanical instructions of equipment, and specifications.
Ability to coordinate work, materials, and man-hours associated with assigned projects.
Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and methods of ensuring safe work practices required of district employees.
Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
Ability to assist in the planning of short and long-range planning of district facility maintenance program, coordinate and monitor assigned tasks.
Skill in exercising good judgment and due caution in the performance of assigned duties.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Ability to:
Lift/carry 100 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the time or 1-100 times per day);
Lift/carry 70 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time or 100-500 times per day);

WORKING CONDITIONS
Moderate to strenuous physical effort for extended periods of time. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, standing and/or walking for extended periods, bending at the waist, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, function under extreme temperatures/conditions, climbing ladders, and scaffolds and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
Moderate to high stress level.

Annual Blood borne Pathogen/Hep B Training
Successfully pass screening/district administered basic skills test
Successfully attend and pass Certified Pool Operators (CPO) Course upon request.
Valid California driver’s license.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
High school graduate or equivalent, two to four years experience in general building construction or maintenance work, knowledge in methods and techniques used buildings trades, good dexterity and physical condition to maintain a rigorous work. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
