Who Doris Dev is looking for:
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This position will provide you with the opportunity to work on exciting development projects, helping to create and bring innovative products to life. You will apply your experience in mechanical design, CAD modeling, prototyping, while working alongside cross-functional teams to ensure the product meets all requirements from concept to production.
The Candidate:
You have experience engineering new products and/or handling touchpoints throughout the concept to manufacturing journey. You’ve either built or supported bringing new products to the world, handling mechanical engineering design, research, testing, prototyping, and validation. You have experience working with mass manufactured product and are familiar with a variety of materials. You’re willing to research, learn, adapt and take initiative but not afraid of taking on challenges.
The Job:
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will:
- Help to lead the development work from product definition through manufacturing.
- Work closely with NYC and Asia teams to communicate and determine direction & solve development problems as they arise.
- Communicate progress to team members and project requirements for development, manufacturing.
- Collaborate with Doris Dev Industrial Design & NY/Asia engineering teams to ensure the engineering designs meet client requirements and design intent.
- Office-based role with occasional travel to manufacturing sites.
The Responsibilities:
- Assist and lead Mechanical Design: Support the design and development of product by creating 3D CAD models, producing engineering drawings, and necessary documentation.
- Prototyping & Testing: Build and test prototypes to validate designs, including hands-on assembly and working with external suppliers for prototype development.
- Ensure efficient product development cycle with detailed prototyping, testing, and validation throughout the process.
- Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with the engineering and design teams to ensure that products meet functional, material, and aesthetic goals. Communicate with marketing, operations, and manufacturing teams to align on project updates and requirements.
- Support and Create Documentation: Assist with maintaining and updating CAD models and related product documentation (3D, 2D, etc.).
- Product Testing: Help conduct off-tool and in-market sample testing, participate in troubleshooting and debugging design issues, and recommend improvements.
- Learn from Experienced Engineers: Gain exposure to different stages of product development while learning best practices from senior and staff engineers.
- Support Supply Chain Efforts: Collaborate with the sourcing and supply chain teams to help gather information and support procurement of materials and components.
- Handle multiple projects and work independently.
The Qualifications:
- Engineering degree preferably Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Onshape, or Creo.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, 3D printing, or other fabrication and shop tools.
- Must have a portfolio of prior work.
- Basic knowledge of materials (plastics, metals, rubbers) and their properties is preferred.
- Problem-solving mindset: Ability to approach challenges methodically and proactively.
- Passion for product development: Interest in consumer product design, manufacturing, and mechanical systems.
- Strong communication skills: Ability to work well with cross-functional teams and convey technical concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
- Located near/in NYC or willing to relocate.
Working Hours:
While our work involves coordination predominantly with the NY Team, there are meetings that are scheduled outside of traditional 9-6 working hours to accommodate teams in other timezones. We trust all team members to manage their schedules and to take appropriate measures to take care of themselves and their wellbeing.
