Job Title: Drafter (3D & 4D)

Position Description
Prepare detailed working diagrams of machinery and mechanical devices, including dimensions, fastening methods, and other engineering information.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls using computer-assisted drafting equipment.
- Lay out and draw schematics to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.
- Coordinate and consult with engineers and other team members to design, layout, and detail components and systems and resolve design issues.
- Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign identification numbers to materials.
- Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and procedures.
- Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or reduce production problems.
- Compute mathematical formulas to develop detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
- Add instructions and comments to drawings.
- Support engineering personnel with design information as requested.
- Assist the Quality Control department with specified product lines.
- Conduct duties according to established engineering procedures.
- Maintain records as required by specified procedures.
- Coordinate with interfacing departments.
- Perform other responsibilities assigned by management.
- Initiate training to maintain current technical skills.
- Maintain departmental records as required.
- Confer with management to resolve problems or issues.
- Follow and enforce company safety policies.
Authorities
- Answer questions regarding product lines in the absence of the manager or upon manager request.
- Inspect first articles in the manager’s absence or upon manager request.
- Submit prints for product lines in the absence of the product engineer, with review by the Engineering Manager.
Education
Drafting degree or certificate required.
Skills and Abilities
Computer proficiency, blueprint reading, use of measuring devices, tooling knowledge, product knowledge, and supervisory skills.
Software experience includes:
- AutoCAD
- Inventor
- Microsoft Office
- Global Shop
Physical Demands
Standing for extended periods, walking, bending, sitting, reaching outward and above shoulders, climbing stairs, squatting, kneeling, and general computer use. Requires good sense of touch and ability to wear personal protective equipment such as steel toe boots and safety glasses.
