SALARY:

To be determined by the district's Director Salary Schedule (Scale 130)

LENGTH OF CONTRACT:245 days
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Master's Degree or higher (Educational Leadership/Administration, School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Education or related field)
  2. Valid South Carolina educator certification (e.g., School Administrator, Principal, or District-level certification)
  3. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role at the school or district level
  4. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas preferred: Attendance/Truancy, Student Support/MTSS, School administration, Student discipline procedures, Student transfer process, family engagement, and Collaboration with external agencies (DSS, DJJ, courts, law enforcement, and mental health providers)
  5. Other alternatives to the above as determined by the Board

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Student Services will serve as the district's centralized authority for student and family-facing processes, ensuring consistency, compliance, equity, and timely resolution across all schools. 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provides districtwide oversight of attendance monitoring, intervention, and truancy prevention systems
  2. Supervises/oversees Student Services Coordinators and attendance staff
  3. Reviews truancy cases, including documentation, compliance, and timelines
  4. Coordinates DSS referrals, DJJ requests, Family Court packets, and court referrals
  5. Collaborates with school administrators to implement proactive attendance interventions
  6. Analyzes attendance data to identify trends, risk factors, and early warning indicators
  7. Serves as the primary point of escalation for complex student and parent concerns
  8. Ensures timely, equitable, and transparent resolution of concerns
  9. Supports schools and departments in responding to sensitive or high-impact cases
  10. Strengthens family communication by providing consistent processes and expectations
  11. Provides oversight of all student transfer requests, ensuring consistency, equity, and compliance
  12. Coordinates transfer reviews, decisions, and documentation
  13. Provides oversight of appeals related to transfers, attendance, and student services decisions
  14. Ensures interpreter and translation support is provided, as needed, for families during transfer requests and appeals processes
  15. Provides oversight of attendance, truancy, and student services hearings
  16. Supervises the district Hearing Officers
  17. Reviews hearing outcomes and appeal processes
  18. Ensures adherence to district policy, state law, and due process requirements
  19. Ensures interpreter services are consistently available for hearings and due process proceedings to support full participation of multilingual families
  20. Serves as the district's Student and Family Ombudsman
  21. Advocates for fair processes while ensuring policy compliance
  22. Facilitates conflict resolution between families and schools
  23. Promotes trust, transparency, and accountability across student services
  24. Provides oversight of civil rights data collection related to attendance, discipline, and student services
  25. Ensures accurate documentation and reporting for audits and state/federal compliance
  26. Monitors equity in attendance, transfer, and disciplinary outcomes
  27. Supports continuous improvement through data-informed decision-making
  28. Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent or Designee.

 

EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Dorchester District Two Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
