Dorchester County Council puts aside funds in the annual budget to hire youth ages 16-22 to work in various positions throughout the County Departments for a total of 130 hours.  This is a 7-week program.  Maximum 20 hours per week.  

To apply for this position, you must be a resident of Dorchester County.
  • Job functions include:
    • Students will:
      1. Work seven (7) weeks from Monday through Friday from June 15, 2026 - July 31,2026.
      2. Work at least 20 hours per week.
      3. Maximum of 130 hours during the program. 
      4. Be available for assignments.
      5.  Be engaged and actively participate in the program.
      6. Put forth their best effort regardless of their assigned position. 
      7. Be accountable for retaining training information and instructions.

Essential task may vary depending on department in which the youth is employed.  Youth will gain basic job experience and an understanding of county government.
 Students must:
  1. Must be at least 16 years old and not older than 22 years of age before June 1st.
  2. Applicants may only participate in this program for a maximum of 2 years.
  3. Must be a resident of Dorchester County.
  4. Be currently enrolled in high school or college (proof of enrollment is required).
  5. Must be able to attend orientation on June 15, 2026, at 201 Johnston Street, St. George, SC.
  6. Be a US citizen.
