What are the responsibilities and job description for the PUMPSTATION INSPECTOR position at Dorchester County?
Determines how to best resolve problems based on long term cost effectiveness; repairs or replaces grinder pumps accordingly.
Oversees maintenance workers.
Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; and offers advice and assistance as needed.
Evaluates pump system data to detect malfunctions in wastewater pumping equipment.
Inspects and operates stand-by generators; follows written procedures pertaining to each operation.
Opens wells, cleans floats; and cleans wells from debris.
Accesses Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system database to obtain information regarding pumping station operations.
Reviews plans and specifications for grinder pump installations with homeowners and subcontractors; resolves conflicts with placement of grinder system for new residences or remodels.
Coordinates grinder installations with plumbers and electricians; inspects work progress and completed installations for compliance with plans and specifications.
Inspects grinder pumps/electrical components.
Makes routine electrical repairs if necessary; refers advanced work to electricians.
Assists supervisor in supervisor’s absence. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; recommending and approving employee discipline; and recommending discharge as appropriate.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED.
Requires at least four (4) years of related work experience.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.
Work is performed regularly where decisions are made that could lead to major community or organizational consequences if there is a failure to make the appropriate decision at the time.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status. Is subject to 24-hour on-call status as assigned; may be required to work during emergency conditions as assigned. Must be available to work holidays and weekends during emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing.
Salary : $50,609 - $55,670
