What are the responsibilities and job description for the CREW SUPERVISOR position at Dorchester County?
The purpose of the class is to supervise crew members; to participate in the construction and maintenance of County road, bridges and drainage systems; and to perform related work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Supervises assigned crew. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems; recommending employee discipline; and recommending discharge as appropriate.
Reviews the work of crew members for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; and offers advice and assistance as needed.
Inspects streets for maintenance needs; checks work orders; assists in scheduling maintenance and repair work as necessary.
Fixes erosion from bad storms; clears water passages as a result of big storms like hurricanes.
Directs work crews in the construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, driveways and curbs.
Supervises and performs related work, including installing, maintaining and repairing drainage pipes, digging and cleaning drainage ditches and catch basins.
Installs street signs.
Removes animal carcasses from County roadways.
Inspects road systems during and after heavy rains; assists with clean-up efforts after storms and heavy rains as necessary.
Assists in determining the type and quantity of equipment, materials and supplies needed for assigned projects.
Inspects the work of work crews and contractors for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, contracts, permits and standards of quality and safety.
Assists crew members with difficult tasks; operates trucks and construction equipment as necessary.
Ensures the proper maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
Prepares and maintains accurate and complete work records and reports as required.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
Attends training, meetings, workshops, etc., as required, to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
Requires at least five (5) years of related work experience.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but employees must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and must work 40 hour each week to maintain full-time status. Employees must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays during emergencies or as requested. This is a safety sensitive position and employees holding this position have the responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. This position is subject to random drug testing.
Salary : $55,796 - $61,376
