Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Mentor Development Specialist. The successful candidate in this role will assist the Coordinator of Educator Growth and Development to serve as mentor specialists for Advanced Professional Licensed teachers designated as teacher mentors for first, second, and third year non-tenured teachers. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership and decision-making skills while in this role. The Mentor Development Specialist serves as a teacher and district liaison, supporting mentor teachers and enhancing the effectiveness of new teacher induction programs. This role is central to improving teacher retention and instructional quality across the district. This is an hourly position without benefits funded through the Title IIA grant.
DUTIES:
- Train and support mentor teachers in instructional strategies, classroom management, and curriculum alignment.
- Model effective teaching practices and behavior intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with site administrators and district leaders to align mentoring efforts with school goals.
- Facilitate professional development for mentors and new teachers.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all mentoring relationships.
- Assist with planning and implementation of the New Teacher Academy and seminar courses.
- Communicate regularly with the Coordinator of Educator Growth and Development.
- Prepare and distribute materials for use in the implementation and support of the program.
- Maintain accurate time sheets and program related records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Has obtained, or is eligible for, a Maryland Advanced Professional License.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level.
- Knowledge of current trends in education including the Maryland College and Career Standards.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional growth.
- Knowledge of the instructional improvement process.
- Knowledge of mentoring strategies.
- Excellent human relations skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency in educational technology and data-driven instruction.
SALARY: The position is hourly at the Title IIA grant rate of $35.00 an hour. There are no benefits other than salary for this position.
Per the Memorandum of Understanding between the Board of Education and the Dorchester Educators Teacher Bargaining Unit, this part-time position should not exceed 15 - 22.5 hours per week.
