Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and efficiently facilitate patient intake processes, including collecting medical histories and verifying insurance information
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate with accuracy and professionalism
- Assist healthcare providers during examinations and procedures, including basic life support (BLS) techniques and medication administration when authorized
- Prepare examination rooms by sterilizing equipment, setting up supplies, and ensuring a clean environment for patient visits
- Support clinical documentation by updating electronic health records (EHR systems), coding diagnoses with ICD codes, and maintaining detailed patient records
- Perform basic diagnostic tasks such as taking X-rays or assisting with laboratory tests in accordance with safety protocols
- Manage administrative duties including appointment scheduling, patient follow-up calls, and coordinating referrals to specialists or hospital services
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and hospital medicine practices
- Experience working in outpatient clinics or hospital environments such as Level I or Level II trauma centers, emergency departments, or specialized units like PICU or OR settings
- Proficiency with EHR systems for accurate documentation and coding; familiarity with ICD coding standards is highly desirable
- Ability to perform clinical tasks such as vital signs measurement, medication administration under supervision, and basic X-ray procedures
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to diverse populations including geriatrics and patients requiring medical-surgical care
- Knowledge of emergency medicine protocols and inpatient care procedures within hospital or urgent care settings
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications related to dermatology, internal medicine, or hospital experience are advantageous
