About DOPE Marketing
DOPE Marketing is a direct mail automation platform serving thousands of home service businesses across the United States. We’ve grown from a startup to a $28M revenue company in just over six years by building technology that makes direct mail as easy as running a digital ad. Our platform combines data-driven targeting, automated campaign management, and a full-service print and mail operation—all accessible through software that our clients use every day.
The Role
We’re hiring a Financial Controller to manage the day-to-day financial operations of a $28M business. This is an execution role, not a CFO seat, not a strategic finance position, and not a bookkeeping-only job. It’s the critical middle ground where the real work gets done, and it’s an incredible opportunity for someone early in their finance career who wants to grow into a larger role as the company scales.
You’ll manage accounts payable and receivable, process payments, maintain financial records, and produce the reporting and light analysis that helps leadership make smart, fast decisions. You’ll work alongside our internal financial advisory team and bookkeeping partners who handle strategic modeling and high-level planning. Your job is to make sure the machine runs, bills get paid on time, numbers are accurate, reports are clean, and nothing falls through the cracks.
This role reports directly to the leadership team, who will provide clear direction and priorities. You’ll have direct visibility into the financial health of a growing business, and as you prove yourself, there’s a real path to take on more responsibility over time.
We’re not looking for someone who’s done this for 15 years, we’re looking for someone who’s done it well for a couple of years and is ready for the next step.
What You Will Own
Accounts payable and accounts receivable—managing all vendor payments, client billing, and collections
Weekly and monthly financial reporting—pulling accurate numbers for leadership review
Bank and credit card reconciliation across multiple accounts
Light financial analysis—identifying trends, flagging anomalies, and providing actionable insights
Expense tracking and budget monitoring—ensuring spending stays within approved guidelines
Coordination with our external bookkeeping team and financial advisors on month-end close
Maintaining clean, organized financial records in our accounting systems
Supporting debt management tracking and cash flow monitoring
What We’re Looking For
1–3 years of experience in a financial operations, accounting, or finance support role
Hands-on experience with AP/AR processes in a real business environment—not just classroom knowledge
Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks) and strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
Ability to produce clear financial reports without being asked, you see what needs to be done and do it
Strong attention to detail, you catch errors before they become problems
Clear communication skills, you can explain financial information to non-finance people simply and directly
Experience working with or alongside external accountants, bookkeepers, or financial advisors is a plus
A hunger to learn, grow, and take on more as you prove yourself in the role
Why This Role Is a Great Opportunity
You’ll be the person who owns financial operations for a $28M company, not buried on a team of 10 doing one narrow task
Direct visibility to leadership and the strategic decisions driving the business
A clear growth path, prove yourself here, and there’s room to grow into a Finance Manager or higher as the company scales
You’ll learn how a fast-growing company actually operates financially, working alongside experienced advisors and a hands-on leadership team
Real ownership from day one in a company that rewards people who step up
This Role Is Probably NOT For You If:
You’re looking for a strategic finance or CFO-track position. This is hands-on execution with clear direction from leadership, not a seat at the strategy table (yet).
You need to be told what to pay and when. We need someone who owns the process end-to-end.
You’ve spent your career in large corporations doing one narrow function and aren’t comfortable wearing multiple hats.
You struggle with deadlines or let things pile up. Bills don’t wait and neither do we.
You can’t communicate directly, if there’s a problem with the numbers, we need to hear about it immediately, not in a monthly report.
Our Culture
We value direct communication, personal accountability, and critical thinking. We don’t hire people who nod their heads and go through the motions. We hire people who see problems, say something, and then fix them. If you need someone to hold your hand every step of the way, this isn’t the place for you. If you thrive when given real ownership and the trust to figure things out, you’ll love it here.
Our leadership team operates on EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System), and we expect every team member to own their number, hit their rocks, and communicate openly when something isn’t working. We’d rather hear a hard truth on Monday than discover a hidden problem on Friday.
How to Apply
Submit your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why you’re the right fit for this role. In your cover letter, answer this question:
Tell us about a time you were given access to a company’s financial data and had to quickly make sense of it. What did you prioritize, what tools did you use, and what did you deliver?
Applications without this answer will not be considered.
