Billing Clerk

Position Summary

Southwest Georgia Healthcare Center (SWGHC) is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Billing Clerk to join our Business Office team. This position is responsible for accurate and timely billing, claims processing, and payment posting to ensure proper reimbursement for services rendered. Prior billing experience is required, and experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) setting is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims (electronic and paper)
• Verify patient insurance information and eligibility
• Post payments, adjustments, and denials in a timely manner
• Review and follow up on unpaid or denied claims
• Work accounts receivable to ensure proper reimbursement
• Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and discrepancies
• Assist patients with billing questions and payment arrangements
• Ensure compliance with billing regulations, payer requirements, and internal policies
• Maintain accurate and organized billing records
• Collaborate with clinical and front office staff to resolve billing issues

Qualifications

• Previous medical billing experience required
• FQHC billing experience preferred
• Knowledge of insurance guidelines, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers
• Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding principles
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Proficient in computer systems and billing software/EMR
• Strong communication and customer service skills

Work Environment

• Office setting within a healthcare facility
• Primarily sedentary work with frequent computer use
• Regular interaction with staff, patients, and insurance representatives

Pay: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour
