Position: Electrical Maintenance Technician

Location: Canaan, CT

Pay Range: $27.97–$47.62 per hour

Job Summary

The Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and upgrading equipment as required, and for performing preventive maintenance on electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure throughout the facility. This includes working on the site's main electrical distribution and high-voltage systems (480V) and utilizing PLCs for system control and automation.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, and electrical schematics/diagrams to perform maintenance and service.
  • Draw, upgrade, and update electrical schematics as needed.
  • Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems on plant equipment.
  • Install or remove electric drive components.
  • Run pipe and wire to new and existing systems.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency repairs on plant equipment and systems.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding electrical issues.
  • Record and document labor and maintenance activity for each shift.

Other Duties

  • Assist mechanical staff as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of the National Electric Code and industrial electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with PLCs and high-voltage (480V) systems required.
  • Ability to read and speak English.
  • Computer literacy preferred.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex electrical systems, read wiring diagrams, and run pipe/wire installations.
  • Familiarity with mechanical tools and basic fabrication (e.g., welding, drilling, threading pipe) preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, lift, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Must occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and around high-voltage equipment.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Formal trade or technical training preferred.

Licensing

  • Connecticut Electrician's License (E-1 or E-2) required.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of industrial electrical experience required.
  • Experience with PLCs, variable speed drives, DC drives, motors, generators, controls, induction heating equipment, fire alarms, and high-voltage systems (480V).

Work Hours

  • Must be available for assigned shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed.
  • Call-ins may occur depending on operational requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to dust, noise, confined spaces, heights, and varying light and temperature conditions.
  • May work alone or as part of a team near electrical and mechanical equipment.

Safety Requirements

  • Must use appropriate PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and personal lockout/tagout devices.
  • Additional safety gear may be required depending on assignments.

Training

New employees will complete comprehensive safety and equipment training including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, confined spaces, hazard communication, PPE use, and other OSHA/MSHA-related topics. Ongoing refresher training will be provided as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $47.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
