Main Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Design and implement chemical processes and equipment for production facilities.
- Conduct experiments and simulations to optimize production processes and improve efficiency.
- Analyze process data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and quality control
- Monitor and troubleshoot production processes to promptly resolve any operational issues.
- Provide process safety support to Operations and drive process safety improvements across the site.
- Ensure explosive atmospheres and hazmat requirements are met at the facility.
- Set and lead the PHA program and facilitate hazard studies.
- Provide technical support for engineering systems including process control, SCADA, MES and instrumentation.
- Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot process control issues and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain process control documentation, including control narratives, P&IDs, and system specifications.
- Lead projects aimed at upgrading existing control systems and integrating new technologies.
- Identify, initiate and manage improvement projects.
- Liaise with suppliers to prepare project and capex proposals.
- Ensure that all System Documentation is updated when new systems are installed / upgraded.
- Ensure training is put in place for any new system.
- Prepare documentation for new equipment in consultation with Operations and Engineering Departments.
- Review process engineering documentation (including drawings) and implement a plan to
- Review process safety related information and documentation and implement a plan to ensure it is up to date and maintained.
- Review control and instrumentation hardware, software and SCADA for familiarity and future planning.
- Support the MES roll out, throughout design, development, testing, implementation and
- Maximizing OEE of process, filling and packaging equipment.
- Ensure all process and control engineering documentation is aligned with SHEQ standards.
- Develop and maintain documentation for automated systems, including specifications, user manuals, and operational procedures.
- Prepare and review technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and manuals.
- Lead projects from conception through to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Provide technical support during the installation and commissioning of equipment.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, or a related field. Other
qualifications and relevant industrial experience may be considered.
- Proven experience in process engineering or process controls engineering within the chemicals industry.
- Strong knowledge of control theory applied instrumentation and automation technologies.
- Proven experience in process safety and facilitating hazard studies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of process design software and simulation tools.
- Familiarity with industry regulations, process safety, and safety practices.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
- Capability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
