Job Summary
Responsible for forestry-related activities, specifically patrolling lines and directing and inspecting the work of contract crews to meet transmission line safety, reliability and compliance requirements in the assigned Forestry area within the transmission system. Works independently, usually scheduling his/her time without guidance. Conducts field observations of tree trimming and landscape maintenance contractors to ensure that adequate clearance between trees, brush and electrical conductors is maintained. Provides the Forestry Coordinator with information on field conditions and crew productivity and provides input on suggested scheduling of vegetation management work. Examines plans and specifications to determine work procedures and costs. Monitors and evaluates operational costs and performance of tree trimming and landscape maintenance contractors. Reviews and approves contractor labor worksheets and invoices. May assist with budgeting as appropriate. Resolves most customer complaints and issues independently, receiving guidance as needed from or referring more complex/severe issues to the Forestry Coordinator. Monitors placement of erosion control devices. Receives ongoing training and advice from more experienced team members.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
4 years of related experience.
Preferred
Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
Bachelor
Preferred Disciplines: Forestry
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred disciplines(s) listed above.
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Retains current Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture, current Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector Certification from the Department of Environmental Quality, and current Commercial Applicator (Pesticide) Certification from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
4 years of related experience.
- Full knowledge of arboriculture, urban horticulture, forest management, dendrology, landscape maintenance principals, tree trimming techniques, and herbicide application
- Good knowledge of electrical principles and transmission circuitry
- Good knowledge of accounting and contract administration
- Skills: Effective written and oral communications, strong customer service, effective organizational and project management
- Abilities: Demonstrated problem-solving and quick decision-making, setting priorities, working independently, Physical attributes required to perform essentials of the job: Walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and hearing
