Description

The philosophy of our organization is that all people have the right to live without fear, abuse, oppression, and violence. Our advocacy programs embrace the philosophy that people experiencing violence and/or abuse have the potential to control their lives and can be helped in doing so through support, information, and encouragement. We believe that our organization should model behavior that is nonviolent and uses power responsibly for personal and organizational action and growth.

The Housing Navigator provides inclusive and trauma-informed housing advocacy and case management services to clients seeking rapid rehousing.

  • Priority 1: Equity and Inclusion
  • Reflect and understand how identities could give advantages in the workplace—even if they are not asked for or earned—while others might experience disadvantages. Reflect on how our position and power may shift depending on the environment, the people, or the institutions at play. Build the awareness and compassion that is needed and expected to create an equitable and inclusive workplace.
  • Create an inclusive environment and behave in a way that ensures that clients and employees feel embraced, no matter what their cultural orientations are, respected and valued, engaged and connected to the community, and safe from abuse and harassment.
  • Priority 2: Client Services
  • Conduct services that are sensitive with respect to each client’s culture, ethnic origin, race, language, gender, age, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, mental and/or physical challenges.
  • Provide services in an environment convenient for the client.
  • Responsible for adopting a “housing first” approach to services and providing care that is flexible and low-barrier.
  • Responsible for assisting clients in accessing community agencies and completing necessary paperwork for such services as housing, financial assistance, food, clothing, transportation, childcare, etc.
  • Responsible for serving as an educator in life skills when clients express the need for extra education and support.
  • Responsible for conducting client follow-up.
  • Priority 3: Grant Coordination
  • Responsible for knowing and executing all CoC HUD grant guidelines for Rapid Rehousing and meeting goals and objectives set forth in the grant including documentation of activities and services for those in the RRH program.
  • Responsible for developing relationships with landlords, identifying housing units, and mediating between survivor and landlord.
  • Responsible for maintaining and tracking data based on grant requirements and attending assigned community meetings relevant to Rapid Rehousing.
