Job Summary:
The Program Specialist assists the Program Supervisor in planning, coordinating, and delivering high-quality recreation programs and services for the community. This position supports program implementation, provides excellent customer service, and ensures that programs operate efficiently and safely.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Assist the Program Supervisor in developing, organizing, and implementing recreation programs, classes, camps, golf range and events
- Provide on-site supervision of programs, ensuring participant safety, quality instruction, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records for registrations, attendance, and program evaluations.
- Assist with scheduling program staff, volunteers, and facilities.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, staff, and community partners.
- Support program marketing and promotion through distribution of flyers, social media content, and community outreach.
- Prepare program materials, supplies, and equipment for scheduled activities.
- Monitor program areas for cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Assist with special events as assigned.
- Report program updates, incidents, and maintenance needs to the Program Supervisor.
- Actively engage in continuing education, professional associations, and certifications (e.g., CPRP/CPRE or equivalent) to remain current with best practices, industry standards, and legislative changes impacting Illinois park districts.
- Performs other related duties to meet the district's Mission and Vision.
This is a Seasonal. Summer Position
Requirements:- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, or related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Experience working in recreation, education, or program support preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, teens, adults, or seniors in a program setting a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.
- Ability to adapt to changing program needs and schedules.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
