Responsibilities
- Install, service, and repair HVAC systems including air conditioning units, furnaces, boilers, refrigeration systems, and building automation controls.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration issues using schematics, electrical diagnostics tools such as ohmmeters, and mechanical knowledge.
- Perform routine maintenance on HVAC equipment to ensure optimal operation and energy efficiency.
- Troubleshoot complex HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/ Refrigeration) systems and identify root causes of malfunctions.
- Read and interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and system diagrams to facilitate accurate repairs and installations.
- Conduct plumbing work related to HVAC systems when necessary, including pipe fitting and leak detection.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards such as EPA regulations for refrigerants and proper handling of ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Communicate effectively with customers to explain repair procedures, maintenance needs, and system upgrades while providing exceptional customer service.
- Assist in the installation of new HVAC system components ensuring proper electrical wiring and mechanical connections.
- Utilize hand tools and mechanical systems repair techniques efficiently to complete tasks safely and accurately.
Experience
- Proven experience as a service technician with a strong background in HVAC system repair, installation, and maintenance.
- Construction experience or property maintenance background is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with schematics, HVAC design principles, building automation systems, electrical systems, and refrigeration is essential.
- Hands-on experience working with HVAC/R equipment including boilers, ammonia refrigeration units, air conditioning systems, and appliances.
- Knowledge of electrical diagnostics using tools like ohmmeters or multimeters is required.
- Strong mechanical knowledge coupled with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical systems efficiently.
- Prior field service experience in commercial or residential settings is preferred.
- Valid EPA certification for refrigerant handling is mandatory; additional certifications related to HVAC/R are a plus.
