Job Title: Dog Handler
Job Summary:
Dog Day Getaway, a reputable & well established dog daycare and boarding facility in Apple Valley, is seeking a dedicated Dog Handler to join our team. As a Dog Handler, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and safety of our furry guests. You will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the dogs, providing care, and maintaining a clean and enriching environment for them.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor dogs during playtime, ensuring a safe and positive interaction among them.
-Identify and redirect dogs engaging in problematic behaviors with or without other dogs.
-Evaluate and assess behavior of a variety of dogs for their compatibility within the DDG environment.
- Provide basic grooming services such as bathing and brushing to maintain the dogs' hygiene.
- Assist with feeding and administering medications according to specific instructions.
- Engage with the dogs in play activities, walks, and 1 on 1 care to promote physical and mental stimulation.
- Maintain cleanliness in the facility by regularly cleaning kennels, play areas, and common spaces. Clean up dog waste efficiently as well as daily, weekly, monthly & seasonal cleaning tasks.
- Follow established protocols for handling different dogs and temperaments effectively.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure all dogs receive individualized attention and care throughout their stay.
Requirements:
-MUST LOVE DOGS!
- Previous experience in a similar role within a pet care facility or veterinary clinic is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of canine behavior, health, and nutrition is advantageous.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple dogs of varying sizes and temperaments.
- Strong communication skills as consistently updating coworkers regularly about dog behaviors is essential.
- Working weekends and holidays are required.
-Ability to stand for long periods of time as well as be able to bend or kneel all without restriction. This position is very active & you will be on your feet for most of it.
-Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
-Must have a valid driver's license & reliable transportation.
-Must be able to handle the emotional aspect of this environment & have a high tolerance for changes throughout the day.
-Must have the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
-Must be extremely reliable and dependable! Tardiness or missing shifts is not tolerated.
Schedule:
Typical shifts can be 6am - 130pm & 1pm - 830pm. Varying midday shifts as well based on the needs of the facility. We are open 7 days a week & staffed 365 days a year.
There is flexibility in scheduling. Part-time & Full-time positions available.
