What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Safety position at DOC?
Under the direction of DOC’s President and Regional Project Executive of Miami, the Southeast Regional Safety Director is responsible for the daily/weekly organization and implementation of Company safety expectations as required by management and various compliance organizations.

Essential Job Responsibilities
- Oversees DOC Safety in ensuring compliance with all aspects of managing Site Safety.
- Work with all levels of DOC to ensure world class safety.
- Responsible hiring, promotion, and termination as it relates to DOC safety employees.
- Support DOC Safety regarding all Subcontractor job specific Safety Programs.
- Ensure safety participation in scheduling look-ahead(s), pre-construction meetings, hazard identification and mitigation.
- Ensure safety orientation delivery to new hires as necessary.
- Ensure thorough review of Job Safety Analyses and other pertinent safety plans for completeness.
- Provide recommendations and assistance, to Project Managers and Superintendents, with respect to job site hazards, employee training, new/safe equipment operation and safe material utilization.
- Remain current on federal, state, county and local safety regulations. Keep management advised of new or revised regulations and their projected impact.
- Educate workforce of safer work practices (means/methods) designed to reduce/eliminate/control hazards associated with their work, deliver applicable training and awareness information.
- Ensure weekly audits are performed and follow-up with project teams and Safety Manager as necessary.
- Ensure Safety Managers attend project meetings (as needed) and understand upcoming work in an effort to ensure proper planning and execution.
- Assist project teams to have proper set-up of safety administrative documents.
- Analyse and identify favorable/unfavorable trends through our digital platform and develop methods to address each month, quarterly and at year end.
- Ensure the performance of pre-job surveys prior to the start of construction including pre-bid and plan review as needed.
- Ensure that complete and thorough Incident Analyses for unplanned events such as injuries, property damage, etc. are completed within the established time frame.
- Participate in company’s continuous improvement program.
- Responsible for assigning DOC’s job coverage for safety personnel.
- Have an extremely high level of competency in construction safety.
- Exhibit strong leadership and motivation skills.
- Have solid written and verbal communication skills along with a strong work ethic.
- Have the ability to access all points of a construction site such as but not limited to confined spaces, elevated heights, ladders, etc., in wide-ranging climates and environments including adverse weather conditions.
- Capable of working independently to determine priorities in a self-directed manner.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- The ability to travel within the greater South East Region, with some overnight stays, is required as this position will be 50% to 75% field work. Must have valid driver’s license.
- Ability to maintain reliable and consistent attendance.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Science or Safety Engineering is required.
- At least 10 years of experience.
- Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Must be able to perform internet research.
- Must hold an OSHA 30 construction certification and be certified in First Aid/CPR/AED.
