Chemist - Research & Development

Position Summary

The Chemist is responsible for supporting the development, optimization, and evaluation of a wide range of personal care products including color cosmetics, skin care, and hair care products. This role requires a hands-on bench chemist who can effectively manage multiple projects while working in a fast-paced contract manufacturing environment. The Chemist will contribute to formulation development, product testing, and scale-up activities while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality products that meet client and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize formulations for personal care products including color cosmetics, skin care, and hair care products.
• Perform hands-on laboratory work including batching, prototype development, formula modifications, and sample preparation.
• Conduct stability, compatibility, and performance testing to evaluate product quality and robustness.
• Assist in troubleshooting formulation challenges and support the development of practical solutions.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and project management teams to support product commercialization.
• Support scale-up activities by preparing batch records, manufacturing instructions, and processing recommendations.
• Maintain accurate and detailed formulation records, test results, and development documentation in accordance with GMP and internal procedures.
• Participate in raw material evaluations and stay informed on industry trends, ingredient technologies, and market innovations.
• Effectively manage multiple projects and meet development timelines in a fast-paced environment.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by R&D leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a related scientific field.
• 2–5 years of experience in cosmetic or personal care formulation.
• Experience formulating color cosmetics is preferred.
• Experience formulating hair care products is preferred but not required.
• Experience in contract manufacturing is preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of emulsion systems, suspensions, anhydrous products, and formulation stability principles.
• Strong laboratory, troubleshooting, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods while performing laboratory work.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., raw materials and finished products).

Pay: $90,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
