VP/Construction needed for CT electrical contractor.

The Vice President of Construction is responsible for the overall operational leadership, financial performance, and strategic growth. This role provides executive oversight of field operations, project execution, workforce planning, safety performance, and operational efficiency across all active construction projects.

Reporting to the President, the VP of Construction is accountable for the successful delivery of the company’s construction revenue, profitability, and operational performance goals. This includes oversight of project execution, labor productivity, cost management, and alignment with the company’s corporate financial objectives.

As the senior leader overseeing construction operations, this role also serves as a key external representative of the company. The VP will actively build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, construction managers, owners, and trade partners, helping to support new business opportunities and strengthen company's resence in the commercial and mission-critical construction market.

This leader will work closely with estimating, project management, field leadership, and executive leadership to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and profitably, while supporting the company’s long-term growth strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

• Provide executive oversight of all construction operations including field personnel, project execution, manpower planning, and operational workflows.

• Lead and mentor Superintendents, Project Managers, and field leadership to drive accountability, performance, and consistent project execution.

• Establish operational standards that ensure alignment between field operations, project management, and company leadership.

• Improve communication, coordination, and operational workflows between field teams and the office.

Financial & P&L Ownership

• Maintain full accountability for the construction division’s financial performance, including revenue targets, profitability, and operational cost management.

• Oversee project financial performance including labor productivity, cost-to-complete forecasting, and schedule adherence.

• Partner with Finance and Accounting on WIP reviews, budgeting, and forecasting.

• Contribute to corporate planning through oversight of divisional budgets, operational expenses, and resource allocation.

• Support the pursuit and planning of new projects to ensure alignment with company growth goals.

Relationship Management & Business Development

• Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, construction managers, owners, and industry partners.

• Represent company in the marketplace to strengthen the company’s reputation and identify future project opportunities.

• Partner with the Estimating team to support project pursuits and ensure smooth transition from preconstruction to operations.

• Foster long-term partnerships that position the company for continued growth in commercial and mission-critical markets.

Workforce & Field Operations

• Oversee manpower planning, staffing strategies, and workforce allocation across construction projects.

• Support recruitment, retention, and development of field leadership including Foremen and Superintendents.

• Strengthen leadership development initiatives that build the next generation of operational leaders.

Safety & Compliance

• Champion a strong culture of safety across all construction operations.

• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and jobsite safety standards.

• Partner with the safety team to review incidents, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve safety performance.

Process Improvement & Operational Strategy

• Identify opportunities to improve operational systems, workflows, and project delivery processes.

• Drive consistency in project execution, reporting, and communication across all construction teams.

• Support adoption of operational tools and technology that enhance project visibility and performance.

Qualifications

• 15 years of experience in electrical construction

• 8 years in senior operational or construction leadership roles

• Demonstrated experience overseeing large-scale commercial electrical construction projects

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred
