About the Position
Our client in Los Altos is seeking a talented Chef | Household Manager to join their home team. The ideal candidate will love creating simple, healthy meals and enjoy bringing quiet organization and calm to a busy household.
This dual role combines culinary skill with light household management and administrative support. The hired candidate will take pride in maintaining a smooth, well-run home and will understand how to support without overstepping—someone kind, resourceful, and grounded.
Primary Responsibilities
Culinary
- Prepare healthy, flavorful meals for two adults and two school-aged children, five days a week. Family style and simple.
- Pack lunches for Mr. (to take to the office) and healthy lunches/snacks for the children.
- Adhere to family macronutrient preferences (balanced protein, vegetables, and complex carbs – approx. 30/30/30 ratio).
- Comfortable preparing a range of cuisines — Mediterranean, Southeast Asian, Japanese, Thai, Italian, and American favorites.
- Mrs. enjoys creative, healthy dishes and vibrant salads; the children tend to enjoy what the adults eat (and especially love pasta).
- Prepare occasional sweet but healthy treats for the kids.
- Finish cooking by 5 pm; family members eat at different times.
- Serve meals as needed, then clean the kitchen and leave the space spotless.
- Manage all grocery shopping and household food/beverage inventory.
- Clean and organize kitchen.
Household & Administrative Support
- Oversee day-to-day organization of the home.
- Handle vendor coordination (landscaping, housekeeping, maintenance, etc.).
- Assist with household projects —cleaning out closets, etc.
- Create a house manual.
- Conduct light administrative work (can be done ≈ 25% remotely): order supplies, research products, manage returns, verify bills, and set appointments.
- Assist with simple travel planning and itineraries.
- Source service providers (landscape designers, vendors) and help schedule meetings.
- Take household vehicles for servicing, charging, and cleaning.
- Schedule and track small maintenance items (e.g., smoke alarm battery replacement).
- Maintain household records and assist with organizational systems.
Family Support
- Be a responsible adult presence in the home when needed; occasionally drive or supervise children in a pinch.
- Collaborate with parents to support school and activity scheduling or events as requested.
Ideal Candidate
- Must be authorized to work legally in the United States
- Experienced chef and/or household manager with excellent culinary skills.
- Grounded, discreet, and professional — knows how to blend into the rhythm of the household.
- Genuinely enjoys healthy cooking and organization.
- Able to juggle priorities and take initiative with minimal oversight.
- Not overly talkative; understands and respects boundaries.
- Tech-savvy enough to manage light household admin tasks.
- Local to the Bay Area (required).
- Non-smoker / non-vaper.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check and provide stellar references.
