Senior Accountant

The Senior Staff Accountant is a key contributor to the accounting team, responsible for the preparation and review of income tax returns and financial statements. This role ensures accuracy in financial reporting, upholds compliance with accounting standards, and actively supports the supervision and development of junior staff. 

The ideal candidate brings strong tax expertise, financial reporting experience, and confidence in reviewing and approving work completed by others.

Key Responsibilities

Tax & Financial Reporting

• Prepare and review individual, corporate, and partnership income tax returns
• Compile and review financial statements for accuracy and compliance
• Perform tax planning, projections, and year-end adjustments for clients
• Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records

Financial Oversight & Compliance

• Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies
• Ensure adherence to internal controls, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements
• Maintain secure digital recordkeeping, including oversight of financial data backup

Supervisory & Leadership

• Oversee the daily workflow of junior accountants and interns
• Review and approve tax returns and financial statements prepared by staff
• Assist with training, coaching, and mentoring team members
• Recommend process improvements and best practices to enhance accuracy and efficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; 4 years of experience required
• Public accounting and tax preparation experience strongly preferred
• CPA or MBA preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including client-facing professionalism
• Proficiency in QuickBooks, tax software, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Highly attentive to detail with strong analytical and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently
• Team-oriented with proven ability to lead and collaborate across roles
