What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructional Coach position at Division?
General Description: Instructional Coaches serve as non-evaluative, school-based instructional leaders focused on enhancing teaching capacity and boosting student learning through evidence-based professional development and targeted supports. Responsible for facilitating coaching cycles, modeling lessons, and analyzing data in support of the division’s instructional goals.
Requirements:
- Must possess a Bachelor’s degree
- Current Virginia teaching license
- Minimum of five years successful classroom teaching experience
- Strong knowledge of research-based instructional practices
- Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
- Strong communication skills to share research-based approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring, and coaching
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Instruction
Essential Job Functions:
- Works with the Instructional team to communicate a clear vision of instructional excellence and continual improvement that are consistent with school division goals.
- Keeps abreast of educational development and trends by participating in professional development opportunities, professional research, and reading.
- Provides individualized, classroom-based support to implement a comprehensive instructional program.
- Models best teaching practices in core content areas of reading, math, science, and history.
- Works with principals to create a school-wide focus on goals for student achievement.
- Assists teachers with resources, materials, tools, information etc. to support classroom instruction and planning.
- Supports teachers and principals in using data to improve instruction.
- Assists teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, developing differentiated lessons, and incorporating best practices.
- Participates in Professional Learning Communities to support teachers and principals.
- Assists principals in analyzing and interpreting data with teachers.
- Assists teachers in using test data to inform classroom instruction.
- Supports teachers in implementing instruction that aligns to the Virginia Standards of Learning.
- Performs coaching cycles with new teachers and/or teachers who need additional targeted support.
- Provides professional development at the school and division levels that supports division goals.
- Serves as a liaison between district instructional personnel and the schools.
