Position Summary:
The Technology Support & Network Specialist serves as the primary technical resource and systems administrator for assigned school sites and administrative buildings. This position ensures the seamless operation of instructional and administrative technology by providing tiered support for local area networks (LAN), wireless infrastructure, and end-user devices. The specialist is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of the network while ensuring all hardware and software systems are optimized for classroom and administrative use.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Possession of a CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or CompTIA Network certification.
- Possession of a CompTIA Security certification.
- Possession of a CompTIA A certification.
- Experience in technical support, network administration, or a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience in network infrastructure maintenance, including switches and wireless access points.
- Professional experience managing on-premise Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Proficiency in hardware repair and troubleshooting for Windows and ChromeOS devices.
Essential Functions:
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot physical network equipment including switches, wireless access points, and copper/fiber cabling.
- Maintain network security through the implementation of firewalls, access control lists (ACLs), and localized security policies.
- Manage user accounts, security permissions, and group policies within an on-premise Active Directory environment.
- Administer system consoles, such as Google Admin and Mosyle, for the management and deployment of Chromebooks, iPads, and iPhones.
- Resolve complex hardware and software issues for laptops, desktops, and interactive classroom displays.
- Perform component-level repairs on Windows and Chrome devices, including screens, input components, and internal boards.
- Serve as the first responder for localized network outages or hardware failures.
- Configure and troubleshoot secure testing browsers to ensure a stable environment for student assessments.
- Lead "Summer Refresh" cycles, including device imaging, equipment moves, and classroom technology setups.
- Oversee the lifecycle of local data backups to ensure business continuity and disaster recovery.
- Document technical procedures and local site configurations within the division’s centralized Knowledge Base and ticketing system.
- Conduct physical inventory and asset tagging for all technology hardware within assigned buildings.
- Meet with on-site vendors to ensure third-party installations comply with division policies and technical standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLAN management.
- Ability to build, maintain, and deploy standardized software images for Windows environments.
- Skill in diagnosing and repairing hardware to the component level for non-sealed units.
- Ability to work independently in a field-based environment, managing site-specific tickets with high autonomy.
- Excellent communication skills with a "Teacher’s Ally" mindset, explaining technical issues to non-technical staff without jargon.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations (FERPA/CIPA) and school board security policies.
- Ability to collaborate with the Technology Department on division-wide project timelines and workflows.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and insurability.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during major network upgrades or system migrations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Ability to climb a ladder while carrying up to 25 lbs unassisted.
- Sufficient mobility to spend extended periods walking through school buildings and working in confined spaces (e.g., server closets).
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity necessary to manipulate small electronic parts, hand tools, and color-coded cabling.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach when installing or maintaining equipment.
