Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history reviews to determine immediate needs.
- Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform suturing with precision following aseptic techniques.
- Manage complex care procedures such as ventilator support, catheterization, dialysis, and tube feeding in accordance with best practices.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks to document patient information accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients across acute care, long-term care, hospice & palliative medicine, and behavioral health settings.
- Provide triage services by assessing urgent patient needs in emergency rooms or urgent care clinics; prioritize cases based on severity.
- Educate patients and families on health management strategies including pain management, medication administration, nutrition, and discharge planning.
Qualifications
- Valid nursing license with current registration in the applicable state or region.
- Proven experience working in hospital medicine, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), trauma centers (Level I & II), or emergency medicine environments.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and laboratory procedures.
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with medical documentation standards including HIPAA compliance.
- Skilled in advanced nursing procedures including IV insertion, phlebotomy, specimen collection/processing, airway management, and aseptic technique.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP), neonatal ventilator management, and dementia or Alzheimer’s care.
- Critical care experience in settings like ICU or trauma units; experience with trauma medicine and infectious disease care is highly valued.
- Ability to perform physical examinations accurately; knowledge of anatomy and physiology essential for effective patient assessment.
- Excellent communication skills for effective case management and health coaching; ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), or specialized trauma certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
