We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Fiber Optic Field Technician to join our team. This is a full-time 1099 contract position, handling service calls and troubleshooting. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic networks to ensure seamless telecommunication services.
This is hands on field work - you'll be out completing jobs, not sitting at a desk. Most of the time you'll be working independently, so you need to be self-motivated, able to problem solve, and stay productive without constant supervision.
Open to entry level candidates, but only if you're serious about learning, investing in yourself and putting in the effort.
Responsibilities
- Install, splice, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cables and related telecommunication infrastructure in various outdoor and indoor settings.
- Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks and power tools safely to access elevated or hard-to-reach areas
- Diagnose and fix issues like no signal, low light or damaged lines.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and network diagrams to accurately execute installations and repairs
- Communicate with customers when needed
- Use hand tools and power tools efficiently to prepare sites, secure cables, and perform maintenance tasks
- Climb a ladder safely using climbing gear to install or repair overhead fiber lines
- Document all work performed meticulously in service reports, including testing results and network configurations
Skills
- Proven experience in field service operations within telecommunication or construction environments
- Strong knowledge of fiber splicing techniques and fiber optic testing equipment
- Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks safely and effectively
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, electrical testing devices, and schematics for precise installations
- Physical ability to climb a ladder regularly while maintaining safety standards
What You'll Do:
- Troubleshooting, maintenance and installation
- Drill, route lines, set up connections, and bring services online
- Diagnose and fix issues like no signal, low light, or damaged lines
- Double-check your work to ensure clean, high-quality work
- Communicate with customers when needed
- Track jobs, updates and make sure everything is properly completed.
