Assistant Teacher (Daycare) Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Teacher – Daycare
Reports To: Lead Teacher / Daycare Director
Job Summary:
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children. This role involves assisting with daily classroom activities, supervising children, promoting social and emotional development, and ensuring the health and safety of all children in care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing age-appropriate educational activities and lessons.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and rest periods.
- Support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Help prepare learning materials, classroom displays, and activity areas.
- Monitor children's behavior and encourage positive interactions and good manners.
- Assist children with personal care needs, including handwashing, toileting, and meal assistance as appropriate.
- Observe and report children's progress, behavior, and any concerns to the Lead Teacher or Director.
- Follow all daycare policies, licensing regulations, and health and safety procedures.
- Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, and staff members.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Coursework or certification in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Previous experience working with young children is preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to pass required background checks and clearances.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Genuine interest in supporting the growth and development of young children.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 30–50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and actively engage with children throughout the day.
- Ability to supervise children both indoors and outdoors.
