Assistant Project Accountant – Construction

Salary range: $50,000 - $65,000 depending on experience

Position Overview

DES is seeking an Assistant Project Accountant – Construction to support our accounting and project operations. This role is central to day-to-day business operations, with hands-on involvement in weekly payroll, certified payroll compliance, project reporting, and general accounting support. You'll report directly to the Controller and work closely with the Project Accountant, project managers, and department leaders.

Please note: this position is fully on-site at our Middleburg, Virginia office.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and process weekly payroll, including certified payroll preparation and submission
• Partner with project managers and department heads to resolve timekeeping discrepancies
• Record customer payments and support accounts receivable follow-up
• Manage employee credit card expenses and reimbursements using the Spend platform
• Code expenses accurately for proper job costing
• Assist with monthly financial and project reporting
• Provide general administrative and office support as needed

Qualifications

• Understanding of accounting principles (Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred)
• Construction or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred
• Knowledge of certified payroll / prevailing wage requirements a major plus
• Familiarity with payroll, job costing, and general ledger processes
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to confidentiality and integrity
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Experience with Procore and construction accounting software (Sage Intacct, Foundation, Acumatica, or similar) is a plus
