What are the responsibilities and job description for the DEAF EDUCATION TEACHER position at Districtwide?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Teaching, assessing and monitoring D/HH students
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Certification in Texas as a Special Education Teacher
- Deaf Education Certification or ability to get this certification
- Certification by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas Teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Must be skilled in American Sign Language and appropriate forms of manually coded English
- May be required to sign for extended periods of time
- Must be prepared to sign under various environmental conditions
EXPERIENCE:
- Prefer at least three years experience as a classroom teacher and experience as a sign language interpreter
