Compensation: Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS certified salary schedule
Hours Per Day:7 hours per day
Contracted Days: 191 days
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Masters Degree in Psychology, or Masters Degree in Social Work, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or any Masters level degree equivalent
Must be able to counsel without supervision
Preferred:
Experience working with children/students with disabilities
Knowledge Of:
Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites.
Subject matter in the area of assignment.
DSM-V
Short and long-range planning techniques applicable to the area of specialty.
Professional development materials, subject matter and methods in the area of specialty.
Record-keeping techniques.
Communication skills.
Support group skills.
Research methods and report writing techniques.
Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
Principles of training and providing work direction.
Technical aspects of the field of specialty.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:Promotes the mental health and wellness of students with disabilities by assuming responsibility for providing school based mental health counseling to assist the student with making progress on Individual Education Program (IEP) goals; promotes family engagement, coordinates resources and supports with community partners for the student; Provides training for staff, participates as an active member through collaborative problem solving and consultation for Admission and Release Committee (ARC) teams.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to work with students with disabilities at all grade levels and abilities
Provide individual and/or group therapy in the school setting
Attend Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings as an active participant
Consult with special education teachers in developing individual student goals and accommodations
Ability to conduct Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA)
Analyze situations and provide guidance to administrators and teachers on an effective course of action based on individual student needs
Ability to assess student’s capacity for remaining safe at school; offer guidance and work with team to develop a plan for safety
Monitor on-going student progress
Provide input for individual student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
Ability to complete required documentation for Medicaid billing
Ability to make recommendations to family about outside therapy services (individual and/or family)
Assure compliance with federal, state, and district policy, administrative procedures, and negotiated agreements as applicable to assignment
Work independently
Prepare, deliver, or assist with professional development opportunities as appropriate
Prioritize, plan, and organize work to meet schedules and timelines
Demonstrate a positive attitude and as as a positive role model for staff and students
Must demonstrate a desire to see all students learn and succeed
Demonstrate effective oral and written communication
Protect confidential information
Perform related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services
