Summary:
Responsible for providing direct academic support services to identified students by working with students individually and in small groups, bringing them up to grade level math standards as well as working cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide leadership, support, classroom modeling, coaching and staff development to math teachers.
Qualifications/Education:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
- 3 years teaching experience with demonstrated student success
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction assigned grades or subject
- Knowledge of intervention instructional strategies and best practices
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
- Ability to interact positively with students, parents, and educators
- Ability to analyze data to provide intervention support to at-risk students
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Will strategically plan with school and central administrative staff to prepare and be able to provide intensified TEKS-based instructional delivery using required curriculum for building and enriching mathematical skills of assigned math students.
- With this intensified TEKS-based instructional delivery and curriculum, Math Specialist will report to an assigned school campus based on assigned schedule and provide direct instruction to students who are eligible for services in a small group, classroom, or individual setting. Co-plan or co-teach lessons with grade level teachers.
- Provide interventions for at risk students, preparing and delivering lessons that reflect the specific academic intervention needs for each individual student.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and technology that reflects understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Differentiate instruction individually and within a small group.
- Design and implement specific strategies to promote intellectual, social, and physical growth in all identified intervention students.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing in addition to reviewing and monitoring student’s STAAR Interim Assessments, District Formative Assessments, and other available data.
- Communicate individual students’ progress regularly with appropriate school personnel and parents.
- Utilize enhancing technologies such as iPads, computers, and smart boards upon availability to increase math intervention advancement in the 21st
- As instructed, may provide coaching, guidance, classroom modeling, leadership support, and professional development to assigned math content teachers.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills as required.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- May serve on staff committees as required. Committees may include but are not limited to SBDM, Safety & Security, LPAC, BTA, Discipline Committee, etc.
- Provide weekly performance reports, required logs and other required documentation by set deadlines.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the campus and central administration.

Equipment Used:
Computer, telephone, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator and other standard office equipment and peripherals.
Working Conditions:
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. Frequent district-wide travel and occasional statewide travel is required. Employee may work prolonged or irregular hours. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, occasionally bend/stoop, push/pull and twist. Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse is required with occasional reaching. The employee must occasionally do light lifting and carrying (less than 15 lbs.). The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Employee must work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
In accordance with TEA regulations, STET/HMPS will provide virtual/distance learning when it is necessary. This platform will be conducted either from a classroom or a location other than a school building, as approved by the Superintendent. Employee will be subject to virtual/distance learning policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook.
