Job Title:               Instructional Assistant, (Candidate Pool) Title I Campus 26-27

Primary Purpose:
Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under the
supervision of a certified teacher. This position is Title I funded and meets the intent and purpose of Title I, Part A of the ESSA
grant program. The respective employee will be assigned 100% to this federal grant program’s single cost objective.


Education/Certification Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, and
  • One of the following:
  1. Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as completion of 48 semester hours or equivalent trimester hours) of college coursework or an applicable number of semester hours as defined by the institution of higher education attended, whichever is less;
  2. Possess an associate (or higher) degree; or
  3. Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a local academic assessment - 
  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.Additionally, within one year of being hired, Title I, Part A paraprofessionals must have the Educational Aide state certification.
  • Additionally, within one year of being hired, Title I, Part A paraprofessionals must have the Educational Aide state certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively


Experience:
Some experience working with children


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments 
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers 
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher 
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students 
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. 
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of
textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

objective. As such, I am required to annually sign and date the Job Description for this position. Furthermore, I understand that this federally funded position is covered under Texas’ Ed-Flex Statewide Administrative Waiver and requires no additional time distribution documentation as long as my work continues to meet the Ed-Flex Statewide Administrative Waiver requirements.
