Custodian, Evening Shift, 3p-11p

Job Classification:    Class 5

Qualifications:         

1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. Ability to follow written and verbal directions
3. Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks and to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
4. Ability to work as part of a team and in an environment with frequent interruptions
5. Any additional or alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of School Directors

Principal Functions:  

The duties shall consist of general maintenance and operation of his/her respective building and grounds, the care and protection of equipment, supplies and other school property, making minor repairs and all other duties as assigned.  The custodians are also classified as Emergency Personnel.                         

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*:

1. Collects, removes and discards all trash and garbage accumulated each day.
2. Cleans all furniture, desks, tables, etc, in each office, classroom, cafeteria, gym and other area as assigned.
3. Sweeps, vacuums, dust mops and/or wet mops all floor areas assigned.
4. Cleans all lavatory areas assigned using disinfectant.
5. Spot cleans, with appropriate materials, unusual marks on floors, walls, desks, etc.
6. Cleans off glass and chalkboards in the areas assigned at prescribed times.
7. Performs group cleaning during certain times in specific areas using stripping, scrubbing, shampooing and waxing methods on all types of flooring systems. Cleans all walls, furniture, light fixtures, etc.
8. Cleans and shines all sundry items found in each area such as drinking fountains, lockers, etc.
9. Cleans the exterior areas of the building for attractiveness, as assigned by appropriate supervisor.
10. Assists in providing and arranging the appropriate furniture and equipment requested for any approved activity.
11. Cleans areas, assists outside people, helps in crowd control at all athletic events, rentals, plays, graduation, etc.
12. Should be available, in case of emergency involving school building usage.
13. Replaces all accessible light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as directed by the Building Supervisor or Crew Leader.
14. Performs all security checks of doors, windows, etc. that may be assigned by the Building Supervisor or Crew Leader.
15. Performs outside work, which includes, but is not limited to: snow removal, salting, routine lawn care tasks, etc.
16. Performs such other duties, consistent with the position, as may be assigned by the Building Supervisor or Director of Buildings and Grounds.

Physical Necessities and Work Environment:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking or moving throughout the building, often for extended periods of the workday.  Must be able to hear (40 decibel loss maximum), verbally communicate, and have vision requirements of near acuity of 20 inches or less and far acuity of 20 feet or more with depth perception, accommodation and field vision. Performs a variety of duties, able to make judgments and work under high level of stress. Lifts/carries papers and/or other supplies weighing no more than 50 pounds frequently and occasionally will lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.  Climbs stairs and ladders in and or around the building.  Will require bending and reaching to secure items from shelves or racks. Requires use of either hand for simple grasping, fine manipulation, and push/pull functions.  Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
