NATURE AND SCOPE_________________________________________________________________

 

The Westwood Extended Day is seeking a Site Coordinator to work Monday through Friday 12:00 to 6:00, and Early Release Wednesdays (approximately every other week) 11:00 to 6:00. Site Coordinators report to and work with the Director and Assistant Director to oversee the operation of the extended day site.  

 

The Westwood Extended Day Program provides a daily opportunity for children to be creative, to stretch their muscles, and to explore and experience the world around them. Children participate in a variety of activities including arts & crafts, dramatic play, group games and sports, cooking and science. Physical recreation is offered daily indoors and/or outdoors. Quiet space for reading and homework is provided daily for Grades 2-5. 

 

The Extended Day staff offers a variety of personal experiences, interests and talents, and the ability to convey a sense of caring and respect for children. The staff strives to meet the individual needs, abilities and interests of each child, to contribute to the social growth of the children by fostering cooperative and responsible attitudes, and to create a supportive environment in which children can learn to make good choices and to become considerate and contributing citizens.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES____________________________________________

The specific duties of the Site Coordinator include but are not limited to: 

  • Provide on-site supervision of the program from opening to closing. 
  • Interview and hire Group Leaders and High School Interns. 
  • Create an enriched environment that provides all children with appropriate choices, including
    • Overseeing the development and implementation of curriculum that is in keeping with the program's mission and philosophy. 
    • Rotating classroom assignments to enable a variety of types of activities throughout the week. 
    • Providing the teaching resources, materials and equipment needed for planned and open-ended activities. 
  • Supervise staff, including: 
    • Overall program and staff scheduling. 
    • Overseeing planning and reviewing monthly curriculum calendars. 
    • Mentoring and training new staff. 
    • Promoting and maintaining professional teaching standards to ensure a quality program. 
    • Facilitating the development of open communication and a good working relationship among staff. 
    • Acting as a resource and consulting with staff on goals and plans for specific children. 
    • Providing on-going training opportunities. 
    • Evaluating staff annually. 
  • Implement procedures that insure the safety of all of the children, including: 
    • Assuring that all unexplained absences are followed up immediately. 
    • Assuring that all records are kept in accordance with the policies and procedures of the program. 
    • Assuring that children will only be released to authorized pick-up people. 
    • Assuring that all health and first aid standards are met. 
    • Providing first aid and/or care to injured or sick children and notifying parents, emergency contacts or health care professionals as needed. 
    • Assuring that food allergies and other health concerns are noted and accommodations made as needed. 
    • Storing and administering children's medications in accordance with Westwood Public School policies. 
    • Ensuring that emergency lock-down and evacuation plans are followed. 
    • Assuring that rooms, equipment and materials are maintained as a safe and clean environment for the children. At the end of every day the rooms should be left clean and neat so that anyone using the space during the day will find it to be a credit to the program. 
  • Communicate with families, including 
    • Making families feel welcome in the program. 
    • Making sure that all relevant information gets to families (communication via email, phone or in person, as appropriate). 
    • Being a resource for program families. 
  • Build relationships with the school community, including 
    • Communicating with classroom teachers and specialists. 
    • Communicating with school administrators, custodians, and maintenance. 
    • When problems arise, inform the Director immediately, and work cooperatively with him/her to resolve the problem. 
  •  Perform administrative duties, including 
    • Collecting and recording field trip/special event permission forms and fees. 
    • Assisting the Director and Assistant Director with general office duties, as needed. 
    • Ordering and/or shopping for snack supplies according to the monthly snack menu. 
  • Substitute in the program when necessary. 
  • Know, fulfill, and model all of the policies, procedures, duties, and responsibilities in this handbook. 
  • Check and approve staff timesheets. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB ENVIRONMENT__________________________________________________________________

 

Work takes place in a fast paced school environment including offices, auditorium, gym, cafeteria, hallways and outdoors (playground and fields).

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS____________________________________________________________

 

Requires sufficient vision to read printed documents and view detail on a computer screen. Requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching as well as carrying and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs.

 

Must be able to move quickly if needed in order to maintain visual surveillance and implement all bolting/lost child policies with fidelity.

SALARY SCHEDULE________________________________________________________________

 

Work Year: 191 Days / yr* 

 

Salary Range: $46,740- $52,607

 

*This includes the 180 days that students attend as well as 11 additional days. These days typically follow these parameters: 

4 Days during February Break 

4 Days during April Break 

2 Days immediately prior to the opening of school 

1 Full Professional Development Day during the school year

The days worked during February and April may be rescheduled due to Extended Day program calendar changes.  

 

Additional hours for annual SafetyCare or similar training and for biennial CPR/First Aid Training required.

Employees are not required to work on the following Holidays:

Tuition Reimbursement

Current employees who have worked for Extended Day for a minimum of 3 consecutive months may receive up to $500 in tuition reimbursement per year for completing an approved course that is relevant to their employment 

 

Sick Leave

15 Days / Yr, to be accumulated to 90 maximum 

 

Personal Leave

3 Days / Yr, not to be accumulated, and to be used with prior supervisor approval 

 

Town Benefits

School year employees who work at least 20 hrs / week are eligible for Town of Westwood employee benefits 

 

Pension

School year employees who work at least 20 hrs / week are eligible for Norfolk County Pension 

*Sick leave may be accumulated if the employee receives a re-appointment letter. Accumulated sick leave is not paid out if an employee is not reappointed and/or due to employee separation.
