Job Title:              LICENSED SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT

Work Days:          As Assigned

Reports to:           Licensed Speech Language Pathologist / Special Education Director

FLSA Status:         Classified – Non-Exempt

 

DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION:

 

To serve as an aide in supporting the speech-language therapy program in Crook County Schools.  Under the supervision and direction of a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, provides certain specified services to students with communications disorders.  Reports to designated Speech-Language Pathologist and the Director of Special Education.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation, utilizing screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP.
  2. Provides direct treatment assistance, excluding dysphasia, to patients/clients identified by the supervising SLP by following written treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP, excluding swallowing.
  3. Documents patient/client progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the treatment plan, and reports this information to the supervising SLP.
  4. Assists the SLP in collecting and tallying of data for assessment purposes, without interpretation.
  5. Assists the SLP with informal documentation during an intervention session (collecting and tallying data as directed by the SLP), prepare materials, and assist with other clerical duties as specified by the supervising SLP.
  6. Schedules activities and prepare charts, records, graphs, or other displays of data.
  7. Performs checks and maintenance of equipment.
  8. Signs and initials treatment notes for review and co-signature by the supervising SLP.
  9. Maintains confidentiality of patient/client records and discusses confidential information only at the direction of the supervising SLP.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Hold a SLPA License issued by the Oregon Board of Examiners Speech Pathology and Audiology.
  2. Demonstrate ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
  3. Read, understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
  4. Accurately transfer, record and convey information, as required by the position.
  5. Basic speaking and writing skills are needed to communicate with teachers and students.
  6. Must have valid Oregon driver’s license and be willing to drive between schools in the district.
  7. Adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free work place.
  8. Basic knowledge of school rules and procedures. Knowledge of district mission and the content standards for Oregon State Benchmarks.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Length of Work Year: Days and hours as assigned.
  2. Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  3. Travel within district, even during times of inclement weather.
  4. Works mostly indoors, with some time spent outdoors (could mean inclement weather).
  5. Works closely with students and can be physically and emotionally demanding.
  6. Responsibilities may require the employee to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.                                                                         
  7. During the first 90 days of employment, a licensed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant shall be directly supervised by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist a minimum of 30% of all time, reduced to 20% after the first 90 days of employment.

 All offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for THC/marijuana in accordance with policy and federal law.
