Job Summary:
The Student Advocacy Coordinator is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the school principal, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

 

All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Moreover, they must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

FLSA: Exempt

Primary Function: Provides leadership and oversight for districtwide prevention and intervention systems to support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional well-being of students. Ensures effective implementation of evidence-based practices related to bullying prevention, crisis response, mental health, and MTSS–Behavior, while aligning school-based efforts with district, state, and community expectations. Supports staff through professional learning, guidance, and collaboration with internal and external partners, including DFCS and community agencies. Monitors student support data to inform decision-making, strengthens school climate and restorative practices, and ensures access to comprehensive services such as school-based therapy and wraparound supports to promote safe, responsive, and inclusive learning environments.

Qualifications:

Required degree in counseling, social work, psychology, a related behavioral health field, or comparable experience in these fields of expertise with PSC certification. Must hold or be eligible for a Georgia Level 6 certification in administration/leadership.

Leadership, communication, and extensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill the job responsibilities.

Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with students, families, educators, community organizations, insurance care coordinators, behavioral health providers, and state agencies. Experience with or awareness of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions:

Oversee implementation of bullying prevention efforts to support safe and inclusive school environments.

Facilitate crisis response and intervention protocols to ensure timely, effective support for students and staff.

Serve as liaison with DFCS regarding student mental health concerns and reports of suicidal ideation.

Support district engagement in Drug-Free Paulding initiatives, including committee participation and survey administration.

Manage LIPT referral processes and facilitate meetings to ensure appropriate identification and follow-up for students in need.

Provide leadership for mental and behavioral health supports, including behavioral threat assessment processes to address safety-related behavioral indicators; coordinate mental-health intervention efforts, ensuring timely identification, referral, and support for students with emerging or ongoing concerns.

Coordinate, document, and evaluate the implementation of the MTSS-Behavior framework and other behavioral-health programs, ensuring PBIS is fully integrated, and report outcomes to support consistent, tiered interventions across all schools.

Attend and contribute to school-safety and behavioral-health trainings to maintain alignment with best practices and regulatory expectations.

Coordinate various district initiatives to promote student and community engagement.

Deliver prevention and intervention supports, including suicide prevention, bullying response, and use of tools such as the Columbia scales.

Design and facilitate professional learning focused on prevention, intervention, and student support practices.

Support the use and expansion of restorative practices to improve student outcomes and relationships.

Conduct school climate walkthroughs to assess conditions to assess and support positive learning environments.

Partner with internal and external providers to onboard and support school-based therapy services.

Advance Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives to promote student well-being and skill development.

Support and facilitate the implementation of the Sources of Strength programming to foster resilience and peer support.

Analyze, share, and monitor student support data (attendance, behavior, academics, etc.) to inform decision-making.

Facilitate and update Vector Solutions training, including suicide prevention and QPR, to ensure district staff compliance and awareness.

Develop and sustain wraparound supports through collaboration with school teams and community agencies.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
