The Director of Teaching and Learning is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the Assistant Superintendent, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

Primary Function: Provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the Teaching and Learning Department, managing departmental personnel, budgets, and program evaluations. This role serves as the essential bridge between school-level staff and curriculum specialists to ensure the rigorous implementation of the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and relevant state curriculum legislation. The Director provides responsive support for school improvement action steps and uses professional learning funds to deliver high-quality, content-specific training that ensures vertical and horizontal alignment across all K-12 academic programs. |

Qualifications:
|
Must hold or be eligible for Georgia Level 6 certification (or higher) in Curriculum and Instruction, School Improvement, or School Leadership, or related field |
|
Minimum of five (5) years of successful school administration or district leadership |
|
Strong background in curriculum, instruction, assessment trends, and instructional data analysis. |
|
Proven ability to relate to a diverse range of people and foster a productive, collaborative work environment among central office and school-level leaders. |
|
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate best practices, navigate conflict resolution, and serve as a strategic liaison for state mandates |

Essential Functions:

Leads the continuous monitoring and evaluation of K-12 curriculum to ensure total alignment with the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) across all content areas. |

Ensures horizontal and vertical alignment of the written, taught, and tested curriculum to eliminate gaps in student learning. |
|
Oversees the provision of adequate curriculum materials and resources for schools, ensuring they support state standards. |
|
Monitors and interprets state requirements and new legislation to ensure district-wide compliance with instructional mandates. |
|
Directly oversees and evaluates assigned Teaching and Learning Department personnel, ensuring high-quality service delivery to schools. |
|
Leads the onboarding, development, and performance management of content specialists and coordinators. |
|
Utilizes a variety of funding sources to design and execute high-quality training aligned with state mandates and best practices. |
|
Develops, manages, and monitors departmental and instructional budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with district priorities. |
|
Coordinates planning and decision-making to ensure quality and consistency among specialized academic programs. |
|
Provides responsive, targeted support for school improvement action steps by deploying content coordinators to address specific instructional gaps identified during district monitoring. |
|
Serves as a liaison between the Teaching and Learning Department and school leaders to ensure effective two-way communication and organizational coherence. |
|
Serves as the official district liaison to the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) Teaching and Learning division and Northwest Georgia RESA. |
|
Coordinates with other district leaders to ensure program continuity, articulation, and effective problem-solving across the district. |
|
Provides strategic direction and support for the district College, Career, and Life Readiness initiatives. |
|
Prepares high-level reports, press releases, and Board presentations to communicate academic progress and state mandates. |
|
Prepares special and routine reports for the Assistant Superintendent and GaDOE as needed. |
|
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. |
