We are seeking a professional, dependable, and personable Optometric Assistant / Front Desk Receptionist to join our established optometry practice in Yuba City.
This is a patient-facing position that requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to comfortably manage multiple responsibilities in a busy practice.
Previous optometry, optical/optician, or medical-office experience is preferred, but we are willing to train an exceptional candidate who has strong customer-service experience and is eager to learn.
Schedule
Full-time, approximately 32–37 hours per week. Applicants must be available to work two Saturdays per month from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm and have some flexibility in their weekday schedule.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and provide professional front-desk service
- Answer telephone calls, take accurate messages, and assist patients with questions
- Schedule, confirm, check in, and check out patient appointments
- Maintain accurate patient information using electronic health record (EHR) software
- Obtain and verify vision benefits and medical insurance information and explain benefits to patients
- Perform preliminary testing, including autorefraction, autotonometry, and retinal photography
- Perform diagnostic testing such as OCT, threshold visual fields, and corneal topography
- Teach patients contact lens insertion and removal
- Assist in optical with frame selection, eyeglass and contact-lens dispensing, measurements, adjustments, and minor repairs
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Help maintain a clean, organized, professional clinical environment
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2 years of customer-service experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Professional and friendly demeanor with patients of all ages
- Dependable, punctual, organized, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable learning new computer programs and medical terminology
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
- Basic math skills
- Previous optometry, optical/optician, medical-office, or healthcare experience is a plus
Compensation
$20.00–$24.00 per hour, depending on relevant experience.
